Ears which stick out are among the most common imperfections and can lead to the affected person
becoming the target for teasing. In most cases when ears stick out, it is due to a misformation of the
cartilage at birth. The result of this is irregular and asymmetrical growth. The operation, which is required,
takes about 90 minutes and is carried out in the clinic.

The ear cartilage has to be newly-formed and fixed in its new form. With a hidden cut in the auricle the
cartilage is uncovered and cut back until the ear has the desired form. If required a further cut is made at
the back of the auricle to achieve a further reduction. With a few stitches the ear is fixed in its new
position and the skin is closed with a single, continual suture. Since the cut is made within the existing
fold of the ear there are no visible scars. After the operation a dressing is put on and should be worn
for 2-3 days. After a further 5 days the stitches are removed.
