Following extensive diagnosis and planning the implant is either fitted into the jaw following local anaesthetic,
sedation or, if wished, full anaesthetic. During the healing period – usually 6-8 weeks – the bone grows together with the implant and forms a firm base for the new teeth. During this time the patient receives temporary dentures After healing the new teeth are either screwed in or cemented onto the implant. The implants function like natural tooth roots. Like these, they channel the pressure which arises when chewing evenly into the jaw. The bone is subject to the correct loading and as such remains healthy.
